La Gloria chef Johnny Hernandez wins San Pascual Award

MySA Blog entry

The New World Wine & Food Festival named chef Johnny Hernandez as winner of the 2009 NWWFF San Pascual Award at last night’s media preview at Restaurant Insignia. Chef Jason Dady, a former recipient, presented the award to Hernandez, owner and executive chef of True Latin Flavors and the new La Gloria Icehouse, which he says is scheduled to open on Wednesday. San Pascual is the saint of the kitchen in Mexico, Spaina and Italy.

MYSA Restaurant Review
September 1, 2010
San Antonio Express News
Edmund Tijerina

A handful of genuinely important restaurants have called San Antonio home in the last century.

The Original Mexican Restaurant, built in 1900, was considered the first Tex-Mex restaurant ever; food critic Duncan Hines (yes, he was a real person) named the original La Fonda in his 1950s-era guide and introduced San Antonio cuisine to a national audience; La Louisiane brought and maintained a standard of fine dining for nearly 60 years; Le Rêve showed San Antonio and the world that this city could produce and support Michelin-star quality cuisine.

Now, add another restaurant to that list: La Gloria Ice House.

Claudio Aguillon Profile
(From his webpage)

Claudio Aguillon was born in El Leoncito, a small village tucked in the high arid lands of San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He spent many of his childhood hours drawing. In 1985 at the age of 13, he emigrated to the United States. His art not only helped him cope with the change but it also open doors to friendships and opportunities. Throughout high school he continued working to improve his talent.

At Palo Alto Community College in San Antonio, Texas, Claudio was inspired and encouraged by the great staff and made a commitment to a career as an artist. In 1999 he received his Bachelor's degree in Fine Art from the University of Texas at Austin.  To continue this profile, click here.
